Happy Paper Roads Publication Day!
One year ago, I was finishing up line edits and coordinating with my cover designer to get Starlight and Cinnamon ready for publication in September, and today, all three books in my International Love and Misadventure series are out in the world. I don’t know why I thought the release of Paper Roads would somehow be less hectic than the first two books, but it’s definitely not. Part of that busyness is having FOUR different events booked for March, including the poetry event that I hosted last night. Another factor is having my platonic soulmate/Boston wife/hetero life partner visit for four days during the week before my parents visit for the better part of a week, and coordinating fun stuff to do with them. My birthday is coming up too, with its many plans, including a tattoo. And on top of all that, I had to make sure Paper Roads is ready for release, the files are all correct, paperbacks are set aside to drop off at the several local bookstores that will carry it, event flyers are printed and ready to be posted, etc.
Is it any wonder I pushed my next draft block yet another month, to start in April? I think that was the right choice. This way, when I have a few hours of free time, I can brainstorm the new series and first book of it without feeling anxious about a deadline. Some people transform into diamonds under pressure. I simply get squooshed.
