Paper Roads Updates
The world is in a terrible and precarious place right now, and despite being terminally online, I don’t want to just “post through it.” Sometimes I feel like I’m not doing enough because my main form of resistance is bringing people joy. I’m a slight thing and always anxious. Are you picturing a Chihuahua? You know how they’re known for snarling at and going after the big dogs? Well. That’s me. I’m all bark and all bite but instead of intimidating, I’m perceived as an adorable annoyance. And I’m not sure that’s helpful to anyone.
So I tell stories. I share the idea that there’s a better world, and when people can imagine a better world, they work to make it a reality. I want everyone to be happy and safe and find the kind of love they need. I’ll also print whistles for my neighbors and participate in community events and I have the Ohio Immigrant Alliance phone number saved in my phone to snitch on any masked agitators I see. But also also: romance.
Paper Roads comes out March 11! I can’t attach a picture to my blog posts, but the trope map is on Instagram here, and you can find all the places it’s currently available for preorder in paperback and eBook at www.books2read.com/PaperRoads
And let me leave you with the summary of Paper Roads to get you interested:
Luke is drifting. His acting career has stalled, his bank accounts are low, his kids are growing up too fast, and two years later, he’s still not over his breakup with Rin. Luckily, a chance encounter with them in Scotland a week before their documentary premiere inspires a great idea: get Rin back. All it will take is a trusty steed, a few slow days in the Scottish countryside, and car snacks.
Rin has a deadline. In one week, their friends will finally see their documentary and learn that Rin bankrupted their deceased parents’ travel business. They’d love to find the courage to tell anyone before then and finally get some support. Surely the best way to do that is to take several days driving to the premiere with their ex. They can practice being vulnerable—and maybe rekindle something between them—as long as the weather and their ancient sedan stay steady.
Between the chaotic moments of imminent car destruction, attacks by animals both wild and domesticated, getting lost in the woods, and escaping a possibly murderous eccentric, Luke and Rin explore what they got right together, what they got wrong, and what it will take to fall in love all over again.
